Sustainable Solutions
Pentair continually evaluates ways to employ sustainable environmental practices and reduce our manufacturing impact. We have many initiatives under way to conserve and improve our use of energy, water, waste and emissions. To keep with that mission the leaders of Pentair have endorsed the following environmental stewardship initiatives:
- Comply with or exceed laws and standards that are designed to protect the natural environment and employees
- Identify the most cost-effective and energy and water efficient processes for manufacturing needs
- Select suppliers who are committed to ethical and EHS standards and business practices
- Develop new technologies and product solutions that help customers address safety, energy and water use challenges
- Meet the high expectations of our shareholders, customers, employees and communities in which we operate
SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS: PUTTING IT INTO PRACTICE
Pentair's solar roof system at its manufacturing site in Pisa, Italy, is made of 4,110 photovoltaic panels that generate electrical power by converting sunlight into direct current electricity using semiconductors. It has provided many significant environmental and financial benefits with its ability to manufacture all products using 100 percent renewable energy.
The plant consumes only 84 percent of the energy it generates, allowing the excess electricity to be sold back into the power grid, providing clean, renewable energy for the city. Additionally, the Pisa project has offset 750 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
Another industry leader is Pentair's Reynosa, Mexico manufacturing facility which utilizes a variety of sustainable environmental practices. Its water reuse and recycling initiative saves millions of gallons of water per year that would have been used in the manufacturing process. It is a zero landfill manufacturing site which it achieves by looking at incoming product and ordering appropriately so that all packaging, etc., can be recycled. The facility eliminates waste to reduce the scrap that normally would go into landfills and has an aggressive recycling program in place.
Across the globe, Pentair employees have rallied around "Kaizen Treasure Hunts" in which teams go into manufacturing facilities and identify all energy consuming devices that could be reduced or eliminated. Over the course of the past three years, this employee driven effort has resulted in a 40% reduction in energy consumption per unit of output for Pentair's manufacturing facilities.
Our continued efforts to expand into new markets with innovative solutions in addition to leading sustainable environmental practices is a win-win for our customers, investors and all global citizens with a stake in a healthy environment.
