- PHTA Day on the Hill – 2026 President’s Perspective
1. Perspective
From your perspective, why does PHTA’s Day on the Hill continue to be an important moment for the pool and spa industry?
"As new leaders take office and priorities evolve, consistent engagement is critical. PHTA’s Day on the Hill ensures policymakers understand the real-world impact of our industry—from local jobs to community well-being—and gives us a forum to align on how we move forward responsibly and sustainably."
Is there anything that feels more urgent or different about this year's conversations compared to past years?
"This year’s conversations felt notably more action-oriented. There’s increased urgency around energy use, water stewardship, and safety—paired with a clearer expectation that industries like ours bring forward practical, scalable solutions. That focus came through in discussions around the Energy Choice Act, the SWIM Act, the PRO Codes Act, the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Reauthorization Act, and support for seasonal workers. All of these reflect a shared commitment to improving swim environments and expanding safe, reliable access to water.”
2. Why Advocacy Matters to Pentair Pool
Why is it important for Pentair Pool to support industry advocacy efforts like Day on the Hill?
“As a leading manufacturer, Pentair Pool has a responsibility to help represent the broader industry. Advocacy ensures that the policies shaping our future are informed by how pools are actually built, operated, and maintained—not just how they’re perceived. Pentair has been a long-standing contributor to policy and change.”
How do events like this align with Pentair Pool’s long-term commitment to the pool and spa industry and the professionals who support it?
“Day on the Hill reflects what matters most to us long-term—strong partnerships, a healthy industry, and a shared commitment to sustainability. These conversations directly support our mission to help people enjoy water more efficiently and responsibly.”
3. Industry Priorities
When you think about the issues being discussed on Capitol Hill this year, which topics do you believe are most consequential for the future of the industry?
“Energy efficiency, water use, and safety are at the center of nearly every discussion right now. How those areas are addressed through policy will have a lasting impact on how our industry innovates and grows."
How can thoughtful policy and regulation help enable innovation, sustainability, and growth across the pool and spa market?
"Effective policy should create a framework that encourages innovation—not slow it down. When done thoughtfully, it can accelerate adoption of more efficient technologies, support pool professionals in the field, and ultimately raise the standard across the industry including safety.”
4. The Role of Industry Collaboration
Why is collective participation—from manufacturers, builders, service professionals, homeowners and retailers—so critical when engaging with policymakers?
“Our industry only works when every segment is represented. Builders, service professionals, retailers, manufacturers, and pool owners each bring a different perspective—and policymakers need to hear all of them to make informed decisions.”
What impact do you believe a united industry voice can have in shaping productive outcomes?
“PHTA Day on the Hill represents the industry bringing clarity and credibility. It helps shift conversations from abstract concerns to practical solutions—and that’s what leads to more productive outcomes.”
5. Supporting the Broader Ecosystem
How does Pentair Pool view its role in supporting pool professionals and homeowners beyond products—particularly when it comes to education, advocacy, and long-term industry health?
“We see our role as broader than product innovation—we’re helping support the long-term health of the industry and support homeowners along their journey of pool ownership. That includes investing in education, elevating industry standards, and showing up in advocacy efforts that benefit the entire ecosystem.”
6. Looking Ahead
When you look toward the future of the pool and spa industry, what gives you the greatest sense of optimism?
“There’s strong momentum around modernization—whether it’s smarter technology, more efficient systems, or greater focus on safety and access. That combination positions the industry well for long-term growth.”
What does success look like—not just for Pentair Pool—but for the industry as a whole—when it comes to advocacy and engagement?
“Success is measured by balance—policies that enable growth while promoting efficiency and safety, and an industry that continues to collaborate and adapt. When those pieces come together, it creates a stronger foundation for everyone involved.”
