Every year on February 2nd, Punxsutawney Phil of Gobbler’s Knob, Pa., comes out to predict the weather. If he sees his shadow, it’s six more weeks of winter, but if he doesn’t spring will come early!
Phil has only been right at predicting the weather 40% of the time over the last 10 years. So regardless if you believe Phil’s weather predictions or not, now is the time to start thinking about preparing your pool for spring. Depending on the part of the country you live in, spring may already be warm enough for you to use your pool. But even if it isn’t, you pool still needs winter maintenance.
Here are three things you can do now to start getting your pool ready for spring:
1. Create Your Plan Now
Creating a plan now will help you save time getting your backyard and pool ready for spring. As an example, start by planning any updates to your landscaping, cleaning your pool deck and shopping for or DIY-ing your patio décor. We recommend using this season’s hottest colors to update your poolscape for 2020.
Make sure to schedule appointments for any cleaning or landscaping work early as these appointments will book quickly as the weather warms up. You’ll also want to schedule your pool opening with your pool professional or add that to your plan to do yourself.
2. Do an Equipment Check
Regardless of who closed your pool last year, it’s important to check your equipment to make sure everything is in operating condition. Look over your equipment to make sure there hasn’t been any damage while in dry storage – specifically cracks or rust. If you’re uncomfortable with inspecting your equipment, contact your local pool professional to come out and inspect any disconnected equipment.
This is a great time of year to refresh your relationship with your pool professional, get started on your annual pool maintenance and to find out if you need anything new for spring.
3. Visit Your Local Pool Store
If any of your equipment is in need of repair or replacement, it’s time to visit your local pool store to learn about all the new equipment available. Working with a pool professional is an important step to pool ownership that can help you in so many ways. Your pool professional will be able to guide you through all the options that are right for your pool and will have them professionally installed.
And if your budget allows for it, now is a great time to shop for other upgrades to your pool equipment! By upgrading to an ENERGY STAR® certified variable speed pool pump can really help you save – the environment and on your energy bills. Learn more here!
