The weather has finally warmed and you’re probably like everyone else – ready for the pool. So here are 3 things you need to do regularly to make sure your pool is always ready for you to enjoy it:

1. Make sure it's clean

Make sure your pool is sparkling clean by regularly cleaning it with a pool cleaner. It’s also important to scrub your steps and water line once a week BEFORE using the pool cleaner. While keeping your pool clean isn’t too hard with an automatic pool cleaner, it’s even easier with a robotic pool cleaner – with a built-in, weekly schedule! In addition to cleaning the walls and floor of your pool, it’s important to clean the water too. This means checking your filter, skimmers and chemical levels. Some of the key chemistry levels to check include:

  • Water hardness
  • Alkalinity
  • pH levels

For reference, the calcium hardness in your pool should sit between 200 and 275 parts per million (PPM). The pH levels of your pool should be between 7.4 and 7.6. And, finally, your alkaline levels should be between 100 and 150 PPM.

2. Check your water level

This goes hand-in-hand with #1. Your water level needs to be at the proper level so your pump can do its job. To see if your water level is correct, look at your skimmer. It should be in the middle of the skimmer opening so that the water can circulate. If the water level is low, you can simply fill it with a hose.

Note: If your water level is too low you will also want to check your pump.

3. Enjoy!

So this isn’t really a “step” but it’s one of the most important things you can do to enjoy a pool day. You’ve worked hard to make sure your pool is in great condition, so you deserve some fun. Sit back, relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor…in your pool!
