Accelerating Technology to Support More Sustainable Food and Beverage Production

From farm to fork, water is a key input starting with crop irrigation and raising livestock, to cleaning food processing equipment and rinsing produce at home. It is also a key ingredient in many of the beverages we drink, from juice to soda and beer.

I recently had the opportunity to join industry leaders at World Water-Tech North America to discuss how accelerating technology adoption across the agri-food value chain can help support more sustainable food production. During this panel, I enjoyed discussing how Pentair technologies are helping our customers make the most of life’s essential resources, including:

Smart Technology: Data-driven decision making is critical to help growers and food and beverage manufacturers optimize water and energy throughout production processes. Armed with decades of beer filtration process knowledge, Pentair is helping brewers optimize the process of beer membrane filtration (BMF) with our BrewAssist IoT solution. BrewAssist allows brewers to take data provided in the brewing process and turn them into insights, helping to produce not only a clearer beverage but also to work more sustainably, consume less energy and create less waste.

Resource Efficiency: The water utilized within the food and beverage manufacturing process must be of the highest quality and consistent in its properties to help ensure a better tasting product. Pentair’s advanced filtration technologies help customers improve water efficiency and quality which are necessary for safe food handling practices.

Resource Recovery: Pentair’s innovations enable customers to get more value from the resources they use, while helping to achieve a more sustainable outcome. For instance, soft drink bottlers, breweries, food and beverage manufacturers and farms, all produce waste streams that contain CO2, methane, and other gas emissions. Pentair’s biogas upgrading and CO2 recovery system technology helps customers lower carbon intensity by recovering these gases from their processes before they are released into the atmosphere and recycling them to produce other valuable byproducts, including food grade CO2 and bio-LNG (liquified natural gas).
