Earth Day 2020: Energy Efficiency Efforts to Help the Environment

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, now considered the world’s largest civic event. The 2020 Earth Day theme centers on climate action, providing an opportunity for us all to reflect on the steps we can all take to help protect the environment.

At Pentair, we are committed to making a positive impact on the health of the world through our smart, sustainable water solutions. One important way that we work to achieve this is by innovating energy efficient products and solutions. After all, it takes tremendous amounts of energy to move and treat water. In developing solutions that require less power, we help reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released by power plants while also conserving limited natural resources.

Our ENERGY STAR certified pool pumps have helped U.S. consumers save $2.4 billion in operating costs, which translates into 22 billion kilowatt hours of energy saved.* The kilowatt energy savings helped prevent the release of 17.1 million tons of carbon dioxide, which is the equivalent of 38.6 billion car-driven miles.**

More recently, Pentair launched energy efficient pumps for commercial building applications. The new high performance pumps not only exceed the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) pump efficiency standards that went into effect earlier this year, but also deliver greater durability and usability for the end operator.

Inside the home, we also strive to improve the overall efficiency of our water treatment solutions. We have engineered our latest water treatment system to require fewer regeneration cycles thereby lessening the amount of energy needed. Treating your water also helps to improve the overall energy efficiency of your other appliances. For instance, the scale and sediment build-up resulting from hard water can reduce water heater efficiency by up to 10 percent.***

Jump-Start Your Energy Savings this Summer

This week we celebrate not only Earth Day, but in the U.S., Saturday, April 25 is National Open Your Pool Day. Pool owners can create a more eco-friendly pool with not only an energy efficient pool pump, but also with energy efficient filtration, heaters and LED lighting. Not only is it better for the environment, but you will be able to save on your energy bills and enjoy your time in the water all summer long.

*Savings are based on a weighted average annual kWh savings from the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) at $0.11 / kWh. Individual Weighted Energy Factor (WEF) scores and savings may vary by model.
