Pentair Named to Newsweek's World's Greenest Companies 2025

Water touches every aspect of our lives and, at Pentair, we’re dedicated to making this most essential resource better for people and the planet. I’m proud to share that our efforts to support a more sustainable future were recently recognized with Pentair being named one of the World’s Greenest Companies by Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group in collaboration with GIST Impact.

We’re honored that Pentair, along with 750 global companies, was recognized by Newsweek in their evaluation which included assessment of Pentair’s environmental performance in relation to our industry, assessing our progress against key environmental factors including greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, waste profile and commitment to disclosing sustainability data.

Sustainability is essential to our business strategy, and this recognition by Newsweek is reflective of how we are Making Better Essential by reducing the environmental impact of our own operations, delivering value to our shareholders and customers by embedding sustainability into our processes and products, and contributing as a valued partner for our communities.

Last month, we published our 2024 Sustainability Report and Highlights Report where we reported on our achievements through the end of 2024 including:

  • Exceeded our 2030 water target of 30% absolute water withdrawal reduction by reducing withdrawal by achieving a 32.8% reduction compared to the 2019 baseline.
  • Exceeded our 2030 Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) target of 50% reduction by decreasing Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by achieving a 51.3% reduction compared to the 2019 baseline.
  • Met our product design for sustainability strategic target to assess 100% of new products with Pentair's product sustainability scorecard.*

With having achieved significant milestones in 2024, we announced new Sustainability Strategic Targets as follows:

  • Water Stewardship: Restore 100% of the water volume withdrawn by Pentair manufacturing sites in high-water-stress areas annually.**
  • Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction: Reduce Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 60% by 2030 from the 2019 baseline.
  • Product Design for Sustainability: 100% of new products complete the sustainability scorecard, aiming to improve scores and with a focus on energy and material efficiency.***

Pentair couldn’t have achieved this award or exceeded our targets in 2024 without our dedicated employees and the leadership from our Board of Directors. I’d like to extend my gratitude for all of the support we have received to make life’s most essential resource better for people and the planet. Together, we’re Making Better Essential.

About the Award

Newsweek’s World’s Greenest Companies 2025 recognizes the top 750 publicly listed companies across 26 countries for their environmental sustainability performance. The ranking is based on a comprehensive analysis of self-disclosed sustainability data conducted by GIST and Plant-A Insights Group. Over 8,000 companies were evaluated, and 750 were selected for inclusion based on their environmental sustainability performance. Eligibility required companies to meet the minimum sustainability standards established by the European Union— widely regarded as the most advanced globally — and to have publicly available sustainability disclosures and more than 1,000 employees.

The companies were evaluated and scored on more than 25 parameters based on the following 4 categories: 1) Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions 2) Water Usage 3) Waste Generation 4) Sustainability Data Disclosure and Commitments.

* The product sustainability scorecard analyzed five impacts from a product’s lifecycle — water use, energy use, GHG emissions, resource use efficiency, and material health — and incorporated an assessment of these impacts as part of new product design.

** “High-water-stress areas” are defined as areas that have an Overall Water Risk score of 3 or higher in the World Resource Institute’s Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas tool. Water restoration includes water restored into the same or other high-water-stress areas as Pentair withdrawal.

*** The product sustainability scorecard has been updated in 2025 to increase weighting on GHG emissions reduction, energy efficiency, and material efficiency (previously called resource use efficiency), in addition to also considering the impact of water use and material health. The scorecard results are incorporated as part of new product design.
