Championing Water Access: World Water Day

Safe Water Network story

Water, life’s most essential resource, touches every aspect of our lives. We recognize that water is an essential resource, vital for health, food production, and so much more – but in many parts of the world, clean water access is not as easy as just turning on a tap. This World Water Day and every day, we recognize the critical need for clean water, while acknowledging that global water challenges affect everyone, but not equally, especially impacting women and girls.

Access to clean water continues to be a challenge for many parts of the globe, and disproportionately impacts women and girls, who are often responsible for collecting water. Pentair aims to advance inclusive and sustainable communities by investing in the availability, quality, and enjoyment of water in communities around the world. Pentair and the Pentair Foundation provide grants to partner organizations that include a focus on improving water access and quality. Recent grant-supported projects helped to provide more than one million gallons of cleaner, safer drinking water annually and install 28 new clean water systems in the communities they serve*.

We are especially proud of the work by our grantee partners Isla Urbana and Safe Water Network. Through this support, Isla Urbana was able to successfully implement five “Rain Schools” in the Mazatec region of Mexico, now providing clean water access to more than 600 students and 38 teachers and school staff. This improves the daily lives of hundreds of parents who previously struggled to ensure water access for their children at school.  Similarly, our support for Safe Water Network helped to make it possible for the organization to install a total of 14 water stations across 11 schools in India, providing safe drinking water access to thousands of children during the school day*.

Recognizing that making a positive, sustainable impact on our communities starts within our own operations we are also committed to advancing our water stewardship efforts. In 2025 we announced a new Sustainability Strategic Target to restore 100% of water volume withdrawn by Pentair manufacturing sites in high-water-stress areas annually. This new target builds on the success and achievement of our water target set in 2021 – to reduce our water withdrawal by 30% from our 2019 baseline. Our updated strategy takes us beyond reducing our impact, which we continue to do, and expands our water stewardship to include restoring capacity of watersheds in high-water-stress areas.

On World Water Day and every day, we are grateful for the dedication of our employees, partners and customers that join us in supporting Pentair’s mission to help the world sustainably move, improve, and enjoy water, life’s most essential resource. Together, we are creating a world where water is more easily accessible and improved for all.
