Here at Pentair, we believe learning and development is a lifelong experience and we have worked to cultivate a robust culture of development that supports employees in their career journeys. This focus on career development is especially important to me as it is one of my professional passions. In my role as CHRO and as a professional, I have the opportunity to help people reach their full potential. Throughout my career I have worked with, coached and mentored a variety of people and I have had great mentors and coaches along the way as well. I use these relationships as points of reflection that help me continue to work to make others better, while continuing to improve myself.

Building a Higher-Performing Culture

Career development is a core component of our higher-performing culture and throughout their Pentair career, employees are provided with resources and tools to support their career aspirations. To further support our career development efforts, during the month of April, we put an intentional focus on career development by providing employees with focused opportunities, tools and resources to further support their career development. The month included the launch of robust functional career guides that provide clear direction on competencies, skills and experiences needed to progress and develop in various roles and functions within the organization.

To close out the month, we dedicated an entire week to career development. The week included interactive educational sessions, panels and workshops designed to support our employees’ career development and growth. Topics ranged from Identifying Your Strengths and Passions to Optimize Your Career to Coaching for Career Development. Further, interactive workshops were held to support, encourage and enable employees to create an Individual Development Plan. Initial feedback from our employees has been very positive and we are encouraged by the commitment to ongoing learning and development from our employees, managers and leaders throughout all levels of the company.

Ongoing Career Development Resources

In addition to the tools, events and resources of Career Development Month, throughout the year we offer our employees a variety of growth and development opportunities, including customized learning paths in LinkedIn Learning, mentorship circles, and focused leadership development programs like our Growth Manager and Senior Leader program. Further, we have five Business Resource Groups (BRGs) that foster a diverse, equitable, inclusive workplace aligned with our mission, values, business practices and objectives. The BRGs host events on a regular basis that support their members’ ongoing growth and development.

Career development is not a one-time event – rather an ongoing activity that we can all continue to work on throughout our professional life. I’m so proud of the work we are doing to foster a culture of learning and growth here at Pentair.
