Human Rights Day 2023: Freedom, Equality and Justice for All

Each year, people around the world come together on December 10 to recognize the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) that was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris in 1948. This year marks the 75th anniversary of this landmark document that set forth the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being, regardless of race, color, religion, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, or other status.

At Pentair, our Win Right values and commitment to conducting business with absolute integrity align with the tenets of the UDHR which includes the protection of human rights and fair labor practices within our own operations and value chain. We foster a culture of belonging and equity, where diversity is celebrated and where an inclusive mindset is the norm. We believe every employee should be provided the same opportunity to be heard, be respected, have a sense of belonging, and contribute to our Purpose. The dimensions of diversity of Pentair’s employees contribute to the rich culture and inclusivity of our company.

Our Human Rights Policy, Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other compliance policies are in place to ensure the fair treatment of all people and to reflect Pentair’s commitment to the protection of human rights and fair labor practices within our own operations and value chain. Aligned with the standards set forth by the International Labour Organization, the United Nations (UN) International Bill of Human Rights, and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the Human Rights Policy addresses child and forced labor, work hours and wages, and freedom of association, and it promotes a positive workplace and respect for others. Additionally, the Pentair Supplier Code of Conduct applies to our suppliers and is aligned with the expectations and commitments set forth in the Human Rights Policy.

Water as a Fundamental Human Right

As a leading provider of water treatment and sustainable solutions, at Pentair we also believe that access to clean, safe water is a fundamental human right and foundational to health, freedom, gender equity, and economic development. This belief drives the solutions we engineer and exists at the heart of the Pentair Foundation and the Project Safewater programs. Working with global and local partners, Project Safewater is a holistic approach to provide safer, cleaner water solutions to those who lack access. Since 2007, numerous Project Safewater programs have been implemented in communities across India, Honduras, Mexico, and Kenya.
